NYC: Stuck in a Holidaze

An East Coast Christmas Holiday

Christmas time in New York is a totally different ball game. Lines at any store are atrocious in the city as it is, so just imagine during Christmas time. However, the vibe and spirit is all worth it. The city doesn't have track homes that are all lit up but it does have all the streets lit and trees wrapped with lights. The big Rockefeller Tree is lit with hundreds of people in line to go ice skating. Everyone walks around at lightning speed with shopping bags in both hands, wearing their best winter get up. Being in New York until Christmas Eve, I get to experience both coasts this Christmas. It is the perfect time to spend with family and friends and set goals for the upcoming year.

Tips For Holiday Parties

I know it can be tough going out all the time for the holidays, everyone seems to want to have people over for drinks, delicious, yet unhealthy meals, and desserts. My biggest tip: limit your drinks. Weather it be alcoholic, fruity, or soda, that is where the most empty calories are coming from. Try to eat something small, like a side salad before you go so you aren't snacking the entire time before the real meal comes. Don't deprive yourself, just choose moderation.  We are what we eat.

Holiday Traffic

Luckily, I do not have to drive in New York. Traffic is miserable for those who do, but we also have one of the most efficient ways of transportation. The subway. It took me some getting used to, growing up my entire life never using public transit, and now I take the subway daily. In California, traffic is a different story. No matter where you go, you're going to hit traffic driving up or down the coast. Give yourself extra time, use the restroom at stops even if you don't have to, and have a playlist ready for the drive. Please drive safe and DO NOT drink and drive.

What to Wear
It's time to rock the ugly Christmas Sweater! Christmas time is fun to dress up in all glitz and glam. If you are going out for a night it never hurts to add a little sparkle. Wether it be a skirt or blouse pair it with a neutral colored pant or top, some red heels and lips and you are ready for any holiday party. For the men, a nice button down or sweater paired with dress pants or dark jeans will do just fine for any party in mind.

Roth IRA

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Roth IRA (Individual Retirement Arrangement) is a retirement plan under US law that is generally not taxed, provided certain conditions are met. Thetax law of the United States allows a tax reduction on a limited amount of saving for retirement. The Roth IRA's principal difference from most other tax advantaged retirement plans is that, rather than granting a tax break for money placed into the plan, the tax break is granted on the money withdrawn from the plan during retirement.
A Roth IRA can be an individual retirement account containing investments in securities, usually common stocks and bonds, often through mutual funds(although other investments, including derivatives, notes, certificates of deposit, and real estate are possible). A Roth IRA can also be an individual retirement annuity, which is an annuity contract or an endowment contract purchased from a life insurance company. As with all IRAs, the Internal Revenue Service mandates specific eligibility and filing status requirements. A Roth IRA's main advantages are its tax structure and the additional flexibility that this tax structure provides. Also, there are fewer restrictions on the investments that can be made in the plan than many other tax advantaged plans, and this adds somewhat to the popularity, though the investment options available depend on the trustee (or the place where the plan is established).
The total contributions allowed per year to all IRAs is the lesser of one's taxable compensation (which is not the same as adjusted gross income) and the limit amounts as seen below (this total may be split up between any number of traditional and Roth IRAs. In the case of a married couple, each spouse may contribute the amount listed):
Age 49 and BelowAge 50 and Above
1998–2001$2,000$2,000
2002–2004$3,000$3,500
2005$4,000$4,500
2006–2007$4,000$5,000
2008–2012$5,000$6,000
2013–2015[1]$5,500$6,500

Hope everyone enjoys their holiday season! I can't wait to go home and enjoy it with my family and friends. Merry Christmas and Happy New Years from the Domingo Farmers Insurance family!

XOXO,
Amanda

Coast to Coast Review

What's New From Amanda Domingo In Brooklyn

Happy Thanksgiving to all! It is so weird that our family will be apart for the first time ever this holiday.  Addison, our Agency's Contact Manager, will be in Pittsburgh, Mom, Dad and Lexie will be home in Carlsbad and me in New York.  However, I am fortunate enough to have a family here in New York too. I have been enjoying going shopping in the city, running the Manhattan bridge, and eating out with my team mates. I was grateful my mom, dad, and sister came out the week before for a surprise. Hope you all are grateful on your turkey day with your family and friends. Enjoy it, I know I wish I was with mine!

A Healthy Recipe for the Holiday Season

As I'm starting to freeze here, this warm holiday Butternut Squash sounds so delicious and easy to prepare. Try it out as a side dish for your Thanksgiving feast.  I also recommend using coffee mugs for ease of serving.

Ingredients

1 (2 to 3 pound) butternut squash, peeled and seeded
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 medium onion, chopped
6 cups chicken stock, low sodium is best
Nutmeg
Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Directions

Cut squash into 1-inch chunks. In large pot melt butter. Add onion and cook until translucent, about 8 minutes. Add squash and stock. Bring to a simmer and cook until squash is tender, about 15 to 20 minutes. Remove squash chunks with slotted spoon and place in a blender and puree. Return blended squash to pot. Stir and season with nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Serve.

Kiki's Kwik Tip on Beauty

I have such sensitive skin that waxing my eyebrows is not an option without losing a layer of skin.  I had a terrible experience with that method of beauty maintenance so I needed an alternative.  It was weird at first. How can this technique possibly work I asked myself.  I fell in love with threading while on a trip to Stanford, but have yet to find a decent place here in Brooklyn. Back home I recommend Kaya Threading in Oceanside right next to Barnes n Noble. It is so affordable and they do a great job. If you have extreme redness, irritation, or scabbing from waxing, I do recommend threading.

Raving Restaurant Review

One of my new favorite places to eat in Brooklyn is National. It is a Thai restaurant that offers a decent amount of food for good value.  The food, spices and presentation is fresh.  I usually order the Vegetarian Pad Thai.   Perfect for a starving college student or dinner with the family. I actually took my mom, dad, and sister there when they came out on their surprise visit. If you are ever in town I suggest you give it a try!

Farmers Financial Fast Fact, by Glenn P Domingo, LUTCF, CSP

The younger you start saving for your Golden Years, the more powerful your retirement nest egg will be.  As confident planners, we understand that the power of time is our most precious resource.  Time is also an element that allows an investor to take advantage of Dollar Cost Averaging. DCA' The technique of buying a fixed dollar amount of a particular investment on a regular schedule, regardless of the share price. More shares are purchased when prices are low, and fewer shares are bought when prices are high. Dollar Cost Averaging is the concept of purchasing Stocks, Bonds, ETF's or Mutual Funds over a long period of time.  This allows the investor to systematically purchase investment vehicles that are higher at times and lower at times preventing market timing .  This type of investing over time has resulted in better returns of your investment instead of purchasing a lump sum at a high mark.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I am going to enjoy tax free Black Friday shopping in New York!  If you spend less than $110.00 on a single purchase in the State of New York, you do not to pay State Tax.  Multiple purchases at the same location on the same day is not uncommon.

Tax Free is always better than deferring your tax.  If you qualify to purchase a ROTH IRA, your return on your investment is tax free.  My dad will explain what a Roth Ira is and who qualifies on our next blog.  Until we read again.

Amanda

New York, New Home

As the youngest in my family, leaving the farthest for college was a huge change for me and my family. Being in Brooklyn, New York for about two months now, I am starting to adjust and settle in to my new home. It is all exciting and nerve wracking at the same time. New York and San Diego are quite a bit different. I entered such a culture shock that I am learning to love. From trying to survive the cold wind chills and watching the leaves change, I have learned things about myself and matured so much in such a short amount of time.

I have enjoyed blogging and running the social media sites for Farmers Insurance this past year. Now that I am finally settled in college I will continue to blog from the east coast. To update you, I am majoring in Sports Management and I am excited to see what my faith has in store for me. I understand leaving home and what you are comfortable with is never easy for anyone. I hope I can share some helpful tips throughout my time in college for students, athletes, and families.

Living On Your Own

Mom and dad are unfortunately not there anymore to do your laundry, watch all your sporting games, make sure you are on top of your homework, or make your meals. If you haven't already figured it out, you will. And for the parents, don't worry, we won't starve.

I've realized waiting until you run out of any clean clothes and underwear probably isn't the best idea. Do your laundry weekly if you can before you spend your only day off waiting for your wash in the washers and dryers that are most likely out of order. Parents, I've learned Tide Pods are the easiest way to go, so if you're sending any care packages including some of those every once in awhile won't hurt.

Time management is key. Work smart. Do the work you have to with the amount of effort that is needed to get a good grade. Balance school and play. Find a happy medium between school work and leisure activities.

Adjusting To Your New Home

Coming from an extremely close knit family, I was very scared to travel 3,000+ miles away for school. But, I have realized being so far away has made us so much closer, and so much more appreciative of each others company. I am so grateful to have such a loving, strong-faithed family that I know is still there for me no matter the distance.

FaceTime, texts, and calls have definitely help. I experienced homesickness, but just a daily little text helps. The phone goes both ways. Never think you're "too cool" to call and check in on the parents they are experiencing loneliness just like you.

Never loose sight of your goals. It helps me get through little daily struggles knowing I am working towards something bigger than the homework assignment I got a bad grade on that I spent so much time on.

Keep your faith and family close to you and things will work out. Stay patient and persistent. Check in next week for my favorite stress reliever!

With gratitude,
Amanda

Time Isn't Ticking

When it comes to health there is no time limit. Living healthy is a life long commitment. Because it is an ongoing journey it is easy to fall off track sometimes, lose motivation. The strongest ones are the people who keep going even when they take a little detour. Neghar Fonooni said, "Fitness is the health of your body, mind, and soul. Therefore your fittest self is not only physically fit, but mentally strong, confident, and loving towards itself and others."

Here are some tips I like to use when I feel like I've lost some of my motivation:

1. Try A New Exercise

Exercising doesn't have to be going to the gym and doing cardio machines for an hour. Try yoga, take a bike ride along the coast, go for a hike, try stand up paddling, or even take your kids to a trampoline house and get your exercise in while they get rid of some energy.

2. Take A Rest Day

Sometimes when all you've been doing is the same workouts your body gets used to it, you stop seeing results, and you wonder "whats the point?" Take a day to regroup and prepare an amped up workout. Sometimes your body needs some rest in order to get back on track, however don't let it turn into a rest week!

3. Find A New Recipe

Look online or ask a friend for a new healthy, nutritious, and delicious recipe. Eating a beautiful healthy meal can fuel your body and get you back on track and motivated to continue with your healthy lifestyle.

Always remember to listen to your body, fuel it properly, and be mindful.

Namaste,
Amanda

Caution: Be "Uber" Safe

Are you already helping your local community by being an Uber driver, or looking to become one? Make sure you are covered on the road! Farmers now offers auto insurance for Uber drivers.

For those of you who don't know what Uber is, it is an app for your phone that will pick you up at any destination and take you wherever you need to be for a much cheaper ride than any taxi. Any one can become an Uber driver and make their own hours. With that in mind, don't forget to be aware when riding with Uber.  Farmers recently teamed with Uber for the Farmers Open and as of May 28th  we have created extended coverage specifically for drivers.

Farmers Rideshare

When you become a rideshare driver for a company such as Uber, your current auto insurance does not cover you as a rideshare driver. We at Farmers thank you for helping keep drunk drivers off the road and have made it possible to get the additional coverage you need at a low rate.

Coverage for Rideshare with Farmers

Without this additional coverage you only have minimal liability coverage. It is likely you would have to pay out of your own pocket for medical and repair expenses. However, with Rideshare coverage, additional liability comes with $50,000 in property damage, $50,000 in bodily injury coverage per person, and $100,000 per occurrence.

Cost $$$

This new program is very affordable. It only costs $6-$8 more per month! We can simply add it to our rating system Farmers Specialty Auto.

Please give us a call at 866-486-3276 or email me at gdomingo@farmersagent.com with any questions and/or concerns. We would love to help you get the coverage you need for helping us keep our streets safer.

Drink Up!

Are you drinking enough water daily? Being busy, working, and running around town all day we tend to forget how important staying properly hydrated is.
Water makes up more than 1/2 our bodies composition and has many more benefit than just quenching our thirst.

My favorite drink is water with lemon. Hydration and detoxification.

W eight Control

Water and water abundant foods tend to aid with weight loss. They take longer to be absorbed and make you feel fuller. Next time you're snacking bored, drink a glass of water first!

A ids with Digestion

Consuming water puts fluid into your colon. Causing things to move much more smoothly throughout your body. Drink water before and after meals.

T emperature Control

Waters high heat capacity allows our bodies to release or absorb heat when we are feeling cold or hot.  This is the reason we sweat. Don't forget to replace water loss from sweating.

E nergizes Muscles

Lack of fluids and electrolytes can cause muscles to shrivel and cause muscle fatigue. It is important to hydrate your muscles before, during and after exercise.

R educes Wrinkles

Although over consuming water will not cause all your wrinkles to disappear, it will hydrate your skin. Dry skin is what causes skin to look older, dry, and wrinkled.

Always remember to stay hydrated! If water is too bland for you, you can always infuse it with cucumber, mint, or fruit!

Wet Weather

Warmer water, thunderstorms, and muggy hot weather? Yep, it's an El Niño year.

What is El Niño?

El Niño occurs when sea temperatures near the equator are warmer than normal. Trade winds in the west and central Pacific relax and hurricanes in the Atlantic decrease.

This year, ocean temperatures are recorded 3 degrees Fahrenheit above average. The NOAA expects El Niño to last until Spring 2016. El Niño brings the Subtropical Jet Stream to Southern California and that is the reason we have been experiencing wetter weather. The LA times stated that Southern California has "...the greatest chance for wet conditions."

Don't expect the wet weather to stop. The winter is expected to be much wetter this year.  Many believe it could be the strongest El Niño in recorded history.

Are You Prepared?

Make sure your replacement value of your home is up to date in the event of a water loss claim. You want to make certain you have the proper coverage in the event of a loss. Please do to hesitate to call or email with any questions or concerns at 866-486-3276 or gdomingo@farmersagent.com. Also feel free to stop by our offices in Oceanside, Laguna Hills, or Santa Fe Springs, CA. We would love to help make sure you are properly insured.

Teri Cafe

Tri-City Crossroads Shopping Center, 3809 Plaza Dr
Oceanside, CA

Price: $$$$$

One of our favorite eateries as a family is Teri Cafe. It is located in walking distance from our office in Oceanside, CA.

Teri Cafe offers a variety of Japanese food from teriyaki chicken and ahi tuna rice bowls, soba noodles and ramen, and grilled chicken and seared salmon salads. There are healthy choices and substitutes for everything they offer. I love all their salads, the simple green salad with grilled chicken is one of my favorites.

Jump Around

One of my favorite exercises is jumping rope. I jump rope nearly everyday. It is great for your cardiovascular system and can be done pretty much anywhere. Jump ropes are so easy to carry around and have many health benefits. Take it to the boardwalk on the beach, jump in your garage, go to a local park, or even take it to your child's sporting event and jump while you are waiting for their game to start.

Jumping Benefits

1. Improving Coordination

You may not realize it, but skipping rope helps with your coordination. Your brain and feet are conscious of each other and coordinate together. Try new tricks like criss crossing your rope or double jumping to become more conscious and coordinated.

2. Feel the Burn

Often, jumping rope can burn more calories than jogging because the vigorous activity gets your heart rate up quickly causing you to burn up to 1300 per hour.

3. Improves Cardiovascular Health

Jump roping is a great aerobic exercise. By skipping 3-5 times per week for 12-20 minuets, you can increase your lung and heart health. The cardiovascular exercise also improves breathing and makes it easier to do activity.

4. Working Smarter

Jumping helps develop the left and right halves of your brain. It enhances spacial awareness, increases reading skills, increases memory, and makes you more alert.

5. No Excuses

It is so easy to travel with a jump rope. Leave one in your car, in your desk at the office, or keep one in our carry on bag if you have to travel on a plane often. It is an easy portable workout that can be done pretty much anywhere.

Skipping Workout for Beginners

Here is a 15 minute skipping workout you can get in during anytime of the day.

50 regular skips
50 scissor skips
50 heel taps
50 ski skips
15 second break

Repeat.

Complete each of the 4 skipping exercises, 50 reps each then take a 15 second break. Continue this pattern until your 15 minute timer is up.

Red, White, and Fruit

Hope you all had a great weekend. Just 5 more days until my favorite holiday, Fourth of July! Family,   friends, freedom, fireworks, and fun is what the 4th is all about. I guess I have this holiday to thank for my life because my mom and dad, Glenn and Jenifer, met on this holiday 22 year ago!

I know holidays bring parties, food, and drinking. However, just because it is a holiday weekend does not mean you have to get off track with a healthy lifestyle. Below I provided some of my favorite healthy 4th of July festive snack ideas.

Festive Fourth Fruit

All you need are some skewers, blueberries, strawberries (or any red fruit) and bananas! For more of a treat you can substitute bananas for marshmallows. Make your American flag as big or small as you want.

Simple Stars

Super simple and festive. Just use a star shaped cookie cutter to make star shaped watermelon for a perfect 4th of July snack. I love enjoying watermelon on a hot summer day on the beach.

Sparkly Strawberries

Just dip your desired amount of strawberries in melted white chocolate and some blue sprinkles, then refrigerate until chocolate is hard. For a healthier option substitute the white chocolate for greek yogurt.

I hope you enjoy your weekend. Stay safe and have fun. What are some of your festive 4th ideas?

The Blogger Behind the Screen

As many of you know, Glenn Domingo Farmers Insurance is a family based agency. I am Glenn's youngest daughter of 3 children, Amanda and I manage this blog and most of the social media sites. I just graduated high school and will be attending Long Island University in Brooklyn, NY next fall. I plan on studying Sports Medicine with an emphasis on athletic training and health science.

I love all that comes with health and nutrition and look forward to studying and learning more about it. I do quite a lot of research and reading myself and like to learn and share. I also love  playing softball and I am fortunate enough to have received a scholarship to continue to play in college. During my free time you'll see me at the beach, working out, or practicing yoga. I love anything to do with the outdoors and I am a HUGE baseball fan.

I hope this has served you to get to know the writer behind the blog a little bit better. What are some of your favorite hobbies and past times?

Never hesitate to call or email with any questions, comments, or feedback. We love hearing from all of our clients.

With Gratitude,

Amanda Domingo, Social Media Manager

June Gloom and the Beauty Boom

Although the weather has been rather gloomy, summer is still around the corner. No fad diets! They are very short term, restrictive, and can even lead to weight gain. Always remember to commit, compromise, and care for your health as a whole. As we are all trying to get in shape for summer time, here are a couple beauty boom tips to keep your health a priority.

Be Nice To Yourself

Health is a life long journey. If you aren't in the shape you want to be in, stay positive and be proud of the little victories. Studies have shown the more positive outlook on health and fitness you have, the healthier you will become.

Eat Well

Eating right is a key component to a healthy lifestyle. You can exercise all you want, but if you don't practice the right nutrition, you will not see optimal results. A simple healthy meal would contain a protein, a carbohydrate, and a fat. For example, chicken breast with a sweet potato and butter and 1/4-1/2 and avocado.

Accept Your Flaws

Everyone has those trouble spots or things about themselves they wish they could change. Embrace your flaws. Have patience and be kind to your body. Instead of pointing out what you don't like about yourself, praise the things you do. Turn negative thoughts positive.

Use Local Resources

Living in southern California I am blessed to have the ocean in my backyard. Get fit and get outside. Use local surroundings to change up your workout scenery. Changing up location will keep you motivated to workout and not plateau from the same workouts. I enjoy morning runs along the coast.

Train Mean, Stay Lean

Eating right and training right go hand in hand. Training hard keeps your metabolism high, keeps energy positive, and keeps burning calories the entire day. I don't think anyone regrets working out, but they might regret missing one.

You Can, You Will

Always believe in yourself. Set attainable goals and celebrate your little victories, they are just as important as the ones you make over years of commitment. Anything is possible if you just believe.

Good luck on your fitness journey, I believe in you and you should believe in yourself. Getting fit and healthy can also help decrease life insurance rates. Never hesitate to call or email at anytime. We are always open to comments, questions, and feedback.

Be well.
With gratitude,

Amanda Domingo, Social Media Manager

VIRUS...Beware!

Cryptowall

Our digital world is getting more and more crazy, like the real world.  Our office computers caught a virus called Cryptowall. The most common way it spreads is through email. Prevent any of these happening by questioning who sent the email to you.  Are you expecting an email from that person and immediately delete or ask someone for help if anything looks suspicious or just delete the file. Here are a few helpful hints to prevent you from getting hacked.

What is Cryptowall?

Cryptowall is a virus that encrypts every file in your database and holds it ransom. It will direct you to pay a ransom starting at $500 and doubles every week after that. If not paid within a month the files will never be recovered.

Common Ways of Getting In Your Computer

The most common way Cryptowall gets into your computer is through an email link. Some email subjects are said to be from USPS or a new Voice Message from Unknown. Once you clicked on the link, you will be redirected to a website where the virus is immediately downloaded. The best way to avoid this virus is to not open any suspicious emails, make sure everyone is cautious and mindful when they open any email.

How to Protect Your Computer

There is no solution that is 100% effective against a virus. However, backing up, keeping your passwords protected, and keeping your antivirus updated can drastically reduce the chance and the severity of a virus.

Be sure to double check your emails before catching this virus! Never hesitate to call or email with any questions or concers at 866.486.3276.

Keep Your Belongings Safe!

With the high school year coming to an end and many going off to college, it is a good idea to look into insurance for your personal belongings.

My daughter recently had her apartment broken into. All her school work was lost when they stole her laptop from her apartment. Renters Insurance is always a good idea, even for college campus apartments.

Why Do You Want Renter's Insurance?

Many people think their landlord covers them for any tenants' lost of personal property. However, they may cover the building, but they are not responsible for anything belonging to the renter.

What Is Renter's Insurance?

A Farmers renters policy provides coverage to help replace your lost, stolen, or damaged belongings. We will pay for additional living costs if you cannot stay in your home. We also reimburse you for any covered losses. We cover personal property, liability, and additional living expenses.

Did you know if you had a Farmers Insurance Renters Policy and your dog bit someone, there is an automatic $100,000 of liability coverage to assist with a potential lawsuit?

You may want to purchase Renters Insurance before it is too late. For more information do not hesitate to stop by our office in Oceanside, Laguna Hills, or Santa Fe Springs or feel free to call me at 866-486-3276 with any questions you have.

Reduce Life Insurance Costs

1. Take Away Tobacco

Everyone knows by now, smoking is an unhealthy habit. But did you know, quitting smoking can actually decrease your personal life insurance? Non smokers actually pay less in life insurance. So, before you light that next cigarette think about expanding your life span while saving you money.

2. Boost Your Mood and Get Moving!

Not only will exercise create a longer life span, but it will also boost your mood. Clients with the right BMI tend to have lower personal life insurance premiums. Only about 10% of clients qualify for the best rates and out of that 10% all qualify for a lower personal life insurance rate because of their BMI.

3. Ditch the Junk

One of the best ways to expand your life expectancy and get healthy is eating right. Ditch the bag of processed chips and swap it for a piece of fruit. Seven or more proportions of fruits and veggies lowers risk of death at any age by 42%. I have discovered prepping meals for the week will keep you on a healthy track and help you stay away from the processed junk.

4. Click It!

A super easy solution, that should be routine anyway, is buckling up your seat belt. You can reduce crash related injuries by approximately 50% just by buckling up. Keep that in mind next time you go for a drive.

I hope these 4 tips were a helpful guide to cutting your Life insurance bill.  I would love to hear from you and set up a Personal Life Policy to protect you and your loved ones. Feel free to stop by our office in Oceanside, CA. Or you can always call or email with any questions or concerns.

Attention Homeowners: 5 Tips To Go Green In Your Home

Want to save money while saving energy? It can be done by some quick , easy, at home fixes. Here are five basic ways to cut your energy bill and help the environment.

1. Light-bulbs to LED

Try to start out by changing just 5 light-bulbs in your home to LED bulbs. Believe it or not, they are actually cheaper over time and will save energy while saving you money. Now I know they can be bright, so you may want to avoid changing them in your room if you aren't an early riser! Instead you can try changing them in closets, pantries, or the laundry room.

2. Power Up The Strips!

Think of all those phone, iPad, and kindle chargers you have just sitting in the power circuits at home. An easy way to save energy is to use power strips. Plug in all the chargers to one power strip and just turn off the strip when you aren't using it. A quick way to cut your energy bill.

3. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Why Do You Need Homeowners Insurance?

Home Insurance is needed if any home owner has a mortgage or lien on the home.  The insurance is needed because the bank still owns the property and they have a vested interest that the property stays in good working order.

It is important to have home insurance also for coverage of your personal property at home and anywhere you might be traveling.  Each company has its rules and regulations about how much personal property is covered outside the home.  Farmers offers coverage of 10% of your personal property from your home insurance coverage any where in the world.  This coverage also protects your personal property at home in the event of a covered loss such as fire, smoke damage, theft etc.

Another important reason that people should carry home owners insurance or renters insurance is the built in liability coverage in the policy.  What if your dog bit someone ??  What if someone tripped on your property ??  What if you accidentally broke something at you neighbors house ??  This is what liability coverage protects, an unforeseen accident not intentionally caused by a home owner or their family members.
