September: Life Insurance Awareness Month

Life Insurance Awareness Month Image result for life insurance images free

Happy September!  We hope you all had a great summer and are doing well.  September is a big month in the insurance world.  The entire month is focused on LIFE INSURANCE.  Life Insurance is one of those tedious topics not regularly talked about. However, we are going to shed some light on the common misconceptions of life insurance to better your understanding of its importance and power.

Many people avoid discussing and purchasing life insurance because they do not want to think about their own, or a loved ones mortality.  Avoiding it does not mean the inevitable will disappear, all it means is you will not be prepared for it.  Many people also think they should shop for life insurance when a "big" life event happens; a marriage, divorce, birth, adoption.  In truth, there is no set time when to purchase a life policy- just like there is no set time when a catastrophic loss of a loved one will happen. You will always need security and protection no matter what age you are.  People who put off purchasing life insurance are really avoiding taking care of the ones they love.

As a family ran agency, we believe in life insurance. In other words, we believe in protecting the ones we love.  Life insurance helps protect assets, your legacy and the ones near and dear to your heart. Think of funeral expenses, your family's mortgage payments, car payments or college for your children.  Without you, those things may be unattainable. With life insurance, your family still will be able to have those things in reach.  There are also living benefits if your life insurance is properly funded.

Farmers Insurance offers several different life insurance products to fit the specific needs of our clients. We provide a detailed needs analysis to help determine which coverage is affordable and right for you and your family.

There are several benefits to having any of our life insurance products, as well as many myths.  Some of the most common myths include, but are not limited to:

  • "I can't afford life insurance, it's too expensive for me" Most assume life insurance is not affordable, or see it as an extra expense.  Those struggling with this mindset tend to see the benefits in Term Life insurance. Term Life options can be tailored to fit your needs and budget with 10, 20 and 30 year term options.
  • "I have life insurance through work already, I don't need it anymore"  Having some coverage is more beneficial than having none at all, but in most cases your life policies through work are not sufficient enough for all your needs.  Additionally, if you were to leave your employer, your coverage may not follow you. It is essential to own your own policy.
  • "I have no children, spouse of dependents so I don't need any life insurance coverage" Life insurance does not just serve the family after your passing, it will continue to serve you as well.  Perhaps you are involved in a charity, organization or community that you can continue to serve the death benefits of a life insurance policy.  Plus, debts and medical bills can be covered through life insurance.
These are just a few common misconceptions we can help you overcome with a simple needs analysis and brief discussion.  Our agency is here to educate our clients, friends, families and acquaintances.  Our purpose is to serve you.

Below is a short video that better explains why having life insurance is beneficial:

We hope you enjoy this last little bit of summer and enjoy the start to this new month.

Restaurant Review: East Coast

The plant based craze continues!  New York is full of big dreams, big possibilities and big eats.  On my mother's most recent visit to Brooklyn, New York, her and Amanda stopped by "by CHLOE." in Williamsburg to check out what the hype was with the vegan friendly eatery.  The "by CHLOE." mission is simple and sweet: Eat well.  Eat with purpose.  Their purpose is to reduce the carbon footprint we leave by maximizing the planet's water supply with an animal-free menu.  Everything is made fresh daily from locally sourced ingredients.

Depending where you are, the menu's may be a bit different.  For the Williamsburg location you seriously could not go wrong with any one of the many choices.  They've got salads, juices, pastas, soups, burgers, sandwiches, drinks galore and even treats for your pets! For a healthy and fun alternative, this is the place to go.  Not only is their food presentation aesthetically pleasing for all the grammers out there, but the menu is too.  From A to Z this place was definitely a hit.  Check out this link to discover locations nearest you and the mouth watering menus.

Restaurant Review: West Coast

Lotus Thai Bistro located on 3050 Pio Pico Drive Suite B in Carlsbad, Ca.  Image result for lotus thai bistro carlsbadImage result for lotus thai bistro carlsbad

Their menu has it all.  They do not skimp on portions and the flavor is authentic.  You can find healthy lighter options, veggies only, or all the meat you could ever want.  I do warn you to be practical when deciding which spice level is attainable for yourself.  It can get real spicy real quick.  We have nothing but praise for this place.  When our office was located right across the way from Lotus Bistro, my parents went for lunch at least once a week.  A decade later, it is still a family favorite.  With friendly service and authentic Thai flavors, this place will leave you full and happy.

I recommend the lunch specials to get the biggest bang for your buck.  You choose a main entree with a protein of your choice and get several small sides: Thai salad, rice, spring rolls, soup, and vegetarian fried wantons.

September Recipes:

September is literally screaming FALL at everyone.  It doesn't help that every store is decorated head to toe in witch hats, cat ears and scary masks... Not to mention the large harvest baskets full of multi colored pumpkins popping out of every corner at your local Vons. But the biggest, most prominent indicator Fall is creeping around the corner is the infamous Pumpkin Spiced everything. I would be lying if I said I did not enjoy a little pumpkin spice every now and then.  However, instead of rushing to Starbucks to spend $6.00 on a soy PSL, I'd rather make these good and good-for-you pumpkin treats instead.

Cacao Pumpkin Butter Honey Chip Bars:

2 tbsp. Organic coconut oil (melted)
4 tbsp. Raw Honey
3/4 c. Coconut flour
2 tbsp. Creamy nut butter
1 tbsp. Organic almond milk
2 tbsp. Organic pumpkin puree (Trader Joe's)
1/2 tsp. Baking soda
1/4 tsp. Himalayan pink salt
1/4 tsp. Cinnamon
1 Egg (or 1 flax egg)
2 tsp. Vanilla extract (or fresh vanilla bean)
Cacao nibs or dairy free choco chips.

Bake at 350F for 12-15 minutes and let cool before cutting.  Perfect little Fall treat!

No Fruit Smoothie:

1 c. Steamed then frozen sweet potatoes
1/2 c. Steamed then frozen cauliflower
1 scoop Raw vanilla protein powder
2 tbsp. Cacao nibs
2 tbsp. Unsweetened shredded coconut
1-2 Dates
1/4 tsp. Cinnamon
1/2 tbsp. Vanilla extract
1-2 tbsp. Nut butter
1/2 - 1 c. Almond milk (depends how thick you want it)
1 tbsp. Coconut butter

Blend it all up in a high speed blender for a super thick and creamy treat.  Full of healthy fats and skin benefits, this smoothie will keep you full and energized for hours.  I like to top mine with a sprinkle of cacao nibs and a spoonful of nut butter too.  Cheers.

With gratitude and kind regards, The Domingo Family Agency
