July 2019

Happy 4th!

2019 is half way completed and we hope you all are enjoying the summer weather while having a fun Fourth of July.  Our family had a blessed 4th, being able to celebrate another year around the sun for our Mama Fili while celebrating her 83rd birthday on July 4th. Her spirit is well and she is gaining strength back every day.  Happiest of Birthdays to both Mama Fili and our agencies first Marketing Representative, Addison Domingo.  Addison celebrated his 25th birthday on July 10th.  Both of these people, Grandmother and Grandson are fighters.  Mama Fili is back to her upstairs apartment and cooking again.  It was a miracle from the illness she recovered from.

Follow The Trees Ride The Vibe

Very proud of my son.  Addison just launched is companies web site.  Please follow his blog and perhaps shop his product offerings.  Here is a little information about his company.

THEIR MISSION

We are a startup Artistic and Athletic Networking Company, with a philanthropic heart, making it our mission  to spread the world with light through art and athletics.  We, here at Follow the Trees Ride the Vibe, believe that artists and athletes aren't so different after all.  Athletes at the top of their game are the best at what they do, the best at getting the job done.  Top-tier artists too.  Well-known artists have the ability to see their masterpiece before and as they are constructing it, just like an athlete, can envision a play before it happens.  By combining the two, not only will each person hone in their skills and sharpen their craft; but, we believe they will see overall health benefits.  We all have hidden talents and untapped potential.

By specializing in various artistic products and numerous athletic  services, we generate profit doing what we love in order to help those in need by donating 15% of our profits.  Ranging all the way from pitching lessons to street fairs selling HEMP products, we generate revenue in many ways.  Similarly, with a  wide variety of mediums and self made projects that are dedicated to helping less opportunistic people, we invite our customers, our family and friends, our audience to change the world, locally and internationally, with one random act of kindness at a time.  We all could give a little more.

Yes, we could all use a little more money; but, time is the greatest currency of all.  And yes, we have problems and we have worries; but, so does everyone.  We all have feelings that we hide inside.  We all are entitled to our own beliefs and perspectives, so we can never truly understand how another person feels.  On the brighter side of that, we all have hidden talents and passions.  We'll never know how far we can go if we don't take that first step in the right direction.   So, look beneath the surface.  Dig in.  Take the time to stop and listen to a stranger's story.  Don't look with your eyes but with a genuine heart.  Thank you for understanding with us that...
We are all more than meets the eye.

Again, thank you for taking time to read about Addison and Arianna.

State Beach Classic

Our agency was fortunate to have sponsored the 5th Annual State Beach Classic.  This article was written by our friends at  The Coast News Group  and a link to the entire write up is below.

CARLSBAD — Carlsbad is gearing up for the “funnest-ever” summer kick-off beach party — the fifth annual State Beach Classic: A Tribute to Banning Capps.
Held at Tamarack State Beach on June 2, the surfing competition — limited to Carlsbad residents — aims to hail the beauty of everything Carlsbad while gathering families to celebrate each other.
Ulises Thomas, the event’s coordinator and “visionary,” will showcase Carlsbad’s “hotbed” of novice and professional surfing talent against a backdrop of “great” food, music, sand contests and overall beach fun.
The all-day revelry begins at 8 a.m. with the singing of the National Anthem by Anthony Cullens. The event is free with the exception of a nominal surfing fee.
“Family’s the word of the day,” Thomas said. “This isn’t a surf contest where you surf, you lose, you leave. Our State Beach Classic is a day of families and friends hanging out, eating great food, listening to awesome music, winning raffle prizes, running in sand contests and watching surfers. It’s a day of entertainment with surfing as an added bonus.”
Thomas described the festivities as organic in growth and legendary in production. Emblematic of local surf cultures, The State Beach Locals Surf Club began as a way to enjoy the sport and protect the ocean. The clique boasted their talents as the “best surfers in town,” as they did their reputation as “hardcore protectors of the ocean.”
“Back in the day Carlsbad had underground, bootleg surf contests,” Thomas said. “We’d surf and judge and heckle each other to the next level and then share a Hawaiian luau or barbecue. We were territorial with our beaches, our waters, and our town. No one was allowed to be disrespectful to our friends or the ocean.”
Upon the tragic death of cohort Banning Capps, their “angel of peace and love,” the event lay dormant. Thomas resurrected the day as a tribute to his beloved friend.
“Banning would be happy,” he said.

Please check out this link by the Coast News Group on the event.

This event also remembers some of the local surfers that have past on and are now surfing the best waves in heaven.  Looking forward to connecting with you all soon.  Hopefully before next years kick off to summer.  Enjoy this summer to its fullest.

Trail Mix

Summer means lots of out door activities (at least for us).  It's important to stay hydrated during the summer heat, but it's also important to properly fuel your body with the right snacks. We often find ourselves away from the apartment from 8 in the morning to 8 at night. New York is exciting any time of the day, so why stay inside!  Meal prepping is not always feasible, or fun to eat to be honest.  Making hearty snacks for throughout the day has been our go to lately.  We create a homemade trail mix every week with whatever nuts and dried fruit we are craving, it's super easy.

- 2 cups raw nuts
- 1 cup raw pumpkin seeds
- 1 cup raw sunflower seeds
- 1 cup dried fruit

Store it all in a jar and dispense into bags or containers as the week goes on.

Restaurant Review

Baya Bar - Brooklyn, NY

Trying to escape this heat and humidity out here in New York is nearly impossible. After a workout all I was craving was an acai bowl to remind me a little bit of home. We found this superfood smoothie place and decided to give it a try! They offer juices, smoothies, superfood bowls, and much more. I went with the classic acai bowl - Koa Bowl. What I love is the amount of toppings you could choose from and how you could add protein powder to any smoothie or bowl. Usually acai doesn't fill me up for too long, but adding the protein really helped. I'd definitely prefer my acai from home, but this one hit the spot and cured my craving for a taste from home.

Kiki's Declining 100 Workout, New York Style

Because us temporary New Yorker's are limited with space and time, I found this workout to be very efficient, difficult and challenging.  Weather you are in your hotel room, in your own studio apartment or outside at a park, this workout can give your calorie burning the whole day if properly executed. This pyramid starts at 100 reps and you work your way down in increments of 10 reps (100, 90, 80...). Depending on your sweat level go through the workout 3-5 times!

100 Jump Ropes
90 Mountain Climbers
80 Jumping Jacks
70 Alternating Reach Taps
60 Air Squats
50 Toe Touches
40 Bicycles
30 Lunges
20 Jump Squats
10 Push-Ups

Go out and get your sweat on!

A Note From the Agent

As summer comes to a start, I wanted to make sure that you understand how I feel about safety and prevention.  These are types of insurances that do not cost premium dollars.  Their cost is Brain Equity.  A little thinking goes a long way.

Always understand your objective for the task at hand.  For example, I want to go to Costco and pick up a few things.  Are my tires filled properly before I leave ?  Do I have enough gas to get there ?  What time of day is it and can I AVOID traffic with an alternative route ?  Where do I feel safe parking my car ?  Is the area well lit ?  Will my car get a scratch or a door dent because of the tight parking spot ?  As I walk up to Costco, do I see any reverse lights on cars that might not see me ?  Am I aware of any cars that might not see me ?  Do I try to make eye contact with drivers that let me pass ?  Do I use a proper cart to prevent any accidents from happening inside the store ?  Do I make eye contact with other shoppers in the isle so we don't run into each other ?  Am I buying something I want or need ?  Is it the healthiest of choices ?  Do I make certain not to stack items in the cart that might damage other items I am purchasing ?  Do I know that my Costco Card and my Credit Card are in a safe place ?  Do I make certain to watch the clerks pack my goods appropriately ?  Am I aware of any cars that might not see me as I pack up my car ?

As you can see, safety and prevention of accidents can save a ton of money and time by avoiding certain hazards.  The next time you take a trip or need to run an errand, make a mental note on safety and how many times we don't even think about how we are conducting risk management as we leave and return to our home.  The cost to be safe and well is priceless, all it needs is a little Brain Equity.

Looking forward to our next blog Family, Friends and Clients.  If you have any questions or concerns, want a Farmers Friendly Review, or want to come and visit us, just let us know.

Kindly and with Gratitude,

Glenn & Amanda Domingo, your bloggers from the West and East Coast

June 2019, Happy Summer!

Home for Mama Fili

If you've been following us for a while, you might be aware of Mama Fili's recent health scares. Per her request, all us kids came home for a weekend to spend with her. Mama Fili is so strong, sweet loving and caring. It is our turn to take care of this strong woman, and to acknowledge all she has sacrificed for our family. Please continue to pray for Mama Fili, that she finds comfort and peace at home with her.

Restaurant Review

Two Hands NYC || Tribeca || http://www.twohandsnyc.com/

Price: $$$
Vibe: chill, friendly, open concept
Staff/Service: welcoming, accommodating, attentive
Food: TO DIE FOR

An Australian brunch spot located in Tribeca, Two Hands does not disappoint. You might have seen cute instagram posts at this place, and it totally lives up to the hype.  Amanda loves all things Australian thanks to youtuber, Sarah's Day. To congratulate my sissy on 40 sales during her first month as work I took her here.  The food and atmosphere makes you want to travel to Australia and eat everything. This cute place can add up at the end, but I say it's worth it!

Recipes of the Month

VEGAN SUMMER PESTO
- handful raw nuts
- 2 handfuls fresh basil
- salt, pepper garlic to taste
- juice of 1 lemon
- sprinkle of nutirtional yeast
- olive oil (amount varies on desired consistency)

I don't use measurements too much when constructing my own recipes, only when I'm following someone else's. Try this out and adjust to balance the flavors according to your liking . It's great as a veggie dip, on zucchini noodles, salmon, shrimp, chicken, bread- basically anything.

KIKI'S SNEAKY TREAT

- 3 Loving Earth chocolate squares (we love the Mint flavor best)
- 1/2 banana
- 1 tbsp. raw almond butter
- 1/2 c. gluten-free granola
- splash of almond milk

Just like her big sissy, Kiki doesn't always use measurements, but she creates the best sneaky after dinner treats. These yummy bowls satisfy that late night or mid-day sweet craving. It's healthy, it's filling, it's perfect!

SUMMER COOLIES

This New York heat is ROUGH. The humidity makes you crazy, and it just makes you sweat like crazy.  Amanda and I get aggravated with the heat and humidity combined, but having a cute little snack always helps ease our pains.  Right now we're really into frozen mango and pineapple. Such a simple and refreshing treat.  It's not really a recipe, but a good idea for a chilled treat because turning the oven on in a New York summer? Forget about it.

End of Year Reflection- Ms. D

This week concluded my first year of teaching and living in New York City.  It's hard to believe how much of myself and my life has changed. I faced challenges that made me question my identity, my confidence and abilities.  I'm proud to say each challenge was overcame with resilience.  New York has taught me just that- how to be resilient when facing defeat.  And it's not just New York that taught me that, it was my students. They faced more stress and trauma than I could ever know- yet they showed up. The population of students I had the pleasure of teaching this year were far from perfect, they were suspended kids with major trauma induced lives. They are strong, they are vibrant and they are unique. They have given me a new purpose in life and new outlook on everything. I never walked out of work without a funny, crazy, memorable story.  I loved showing up for those kids everyday. A new type of patience was something I took away from this year, and I'll forever be grateful for that.  I am more humble, empathetic, vulnerable and loving because this job has opened my heart up.  As I continue to establish myself as an educator, I hope to grow into an influential advocate for educational equity. It's been the best year of my life growth wise and I couldn't be more thrilled to have one year down.  But, I am ready for a much needed break and to recharge with my favorite people.

Summary and Trends from the Agency Owner

Clients, Friends and Family,

It was a scary and emotional month with my moms health on the line.  As I have mentioned more than once, Faith, Family and then me.  I am glad that the kids were able to get home to visit and spend quality time with Mama Fili, Jen and me.  Never the less, we must take care of our family.  If you are not taken care of yourself, it is very difficult to take care of anyone else.

Please understand that insurance is the spread of risk over a population in order that no single risk has to take the burden of a covered loss by themselves.  This is how insurance works.  We do have a higher risk for wild fire than most places in the country.  You will see rates for both auto and home insurance increase because of the payouts and the possibility of other wild fires occurring.  This is an industry trend.  Make certain to reach out if you have any questions or concerns about pricing.  You chose our agency because of service, a fair price and the Farmers Insurance Brand to protect your personal property.  Don't always let price be the decision you make on the important items you  purchase.  This is especially true for professional services such as an attorney, insurance services, doctors etc.  We are here to assist. We are contacting clients directly with increases in premiums over 12%.  We are here to serve you.

CEA Can Help You Help Your Insureds

On Thursday, July 4 at 10:33 a.m. PST a magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck about 12 kilometers southwest of Searles Valley in the Mojave Desert. Multiple aftershocks followed, one as strong as a magnitude 5.4.

This was the largest magnitude earthquake to strike California in 20 years.

Residents of the town nearest to the epicenter─Ridgecrest─felt very strong shaking, with some describing the event as "terrifying." The earthquake was felt far and wide: from the Pacific Coast to Las Vegas, and from San Diego to the State of Washington. Governor Newsom has declared a State of Emergency for Kern County.

USGS indicates a "yellow alert" for economic losses: "Some damage is possible and the impact should be relatively localized." Some news media are reporting damage to roads, buildings and residences.

CEA has approximately 2,000 policyholders in the affected areas, including ZIP Codes 93555 (Ridgecrest), 93527 (Inyokern) and 93562 (Trona), who may have experienced strong shaking.

Wishing everyone a wonderful and safe summer.  Please call anytime with questions or concerns and we will address the issue immediately.  Our first time call response is still over 75% and we take pride in that.

Kindly and with Gratitude, the bloggers from the East and West Coast, Glenn & Alexandra Domingo
