A Time of Thanks 2023

Addison and Alexandra Domingo spending Thanksgiving Week, Long Island North Port

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones. We appreciate not only your business, but your friendship. We missed Addison and Lexie this year, but they got to spend the holiday together in NYC with Lexie's new dog, Ruby. We had a small Thanksgiving with family this year. Every black Friday after Thanksgiving we get together with our closest friends and their families. A Friendsgiving holiday that we cherish each year. We hope you enjoyed your time with your loved ones, ate good food, and shared all that you are grateful for. Thanksgiving is a great time to reflect before the year is over on how blessed we are.  The families that joined us are The Janatsch's Family from Nashville, The Maue Family from Wildomar,  The Johnsons, Adnam's, Stovall's and Jacobsen's from Huntington Beach and the Domingo's from Carlsbad.  Hope to see more families from Oceanview or Starview next year.

Recipe of the Month - Chicken Crusted Pizza

The same great taste but is a pizza that you can actually hit your protein goal with and enjoy!

Ingredients:

1 pound ground chicken
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 c grated parmesan cheese
1 tsp Italian seasoning (optional)

Instructions:

1. Preheat oven to 450 F
2. Mix all ingredients in a medium bowl until a ball/dough formation
3. Press dough into a pizza shape, a pan works, but a pizza stone is best. Use parchment paper underneath.
4. Bake the dough at 450 F for 15 minutes
5. Add favorite toppings and put back in the oven on broil until golden on the bottom, or cheese begins bubbling.

Nursing Tip

As we age, it is difficult for some elders to ask for our help and our assistance. Whether they aren't used to it, feel like they don't want to age, or are too stubborn and prideful, they do need and appreciate our help. The older population is also the forgotten population, unfortunately.  A quick hello, or asking your elderly neighbor if they need anything from the grocery store on your way out can go a long way. After being in the hospitals, I quickly realized that many did not have a lot of family or visitors. They really appreciate just having someone have a conversation with them. I encourage you to say hello once in a while and have a conversation with them, call your grandparents, aunts, uncles or your parents more often, allow them to tell you stories and listen to them, they probably have some pretty good advice.   My dad is considering a ministry with our family elders, maybe once a month go visit and see what is needed.  Do you have any good ideas to help our elders age well ?

A Note from the Agency Owner

The entire insurance industry in the world is dealing with the below:
  1.  inflation
  2. supply chain delays and increased cost for cars waiting to be fixed
  3.  increased cost for supplies and labor in the repair and service industries
  4.  increased frequency and severity of claims
  5.  increased fraud claims
  6.  lack of product offerings creating more exposure to risk for companies serving the market place which creates more premium increasing
  7.  reinsurance rates sky rocketing
  8.  Inability to adjust rates properly in 2020,2021 from Department of Insurance during pandemic to account for wild fires in 2017 and 2018.  And now we have to take into account the wild fires for 2019,2020, and 2021
The above are not excuses, but are actual reasons for insurance rates to increase across the board.  Some areas that will assist with your premium increases are:

a.  deductible management
b.  lower coverages in areas that you don't have exposure
c.  combine your home and auto insurance for maximum discounts
d.  utilizing your home insurance policy for catastrophic losses only
e.  asking your mortgage company what there forced place rate is
f.  writing to the governor and the Department of Insurance Commissioner to have rate caps each year

As always, we appreciate the input, feedback and suggestions from our clients.  When I first started in our industry with the Farmers Insurance Group 27 years ago, I aligned our core beliefs with having accountability first with the department of insurance, then our loyalty and support to our clients and then finally to Farmers.  This practice has kept our agency running.  We are grateful to each and everyone on of our friends, family, sphere of influencers and business partners.  Please call, email or text with any insurance related questions or concerns.  Our advise is free and you don't have to be with Farmers to accept this offer.  Peace and love always.
Kindly, Glenn, Jenifer, Amanda, Lexie, Addison, Liane and Leticia

October 2023

Is It October Already ??

Restaurant Review - Rim Talay Thai

We have been on the hunt for a local Thai spot and we have found a winner! Located in the heart of Downtown Oceanside, reasonably priced, and excellent service. The fresh spring rolls and any soup of your choice is a great appetizers to start with. I went out of my comfort zone and tried the chicken and cashew stir fry which was AMAZING and even better as leftover for lunch the next day. We also tried the classic Pad Thai, and we were not disappointed. They offer a dine-in option inside or outside and also have a fast and seamless to-go section that you can order ahead or right at the to-go window. A perfect cuisine as the weather starts getting a little cooler and cozy. The menu is posted below for you to browse, just follow the link!

Workout of the Month

A little less intense than your typical workout from me! Inspired by my Auntie Des whom I have been training for the past year. She has lost 10 pounds and is focusing on gait training, a strong core, and improving her balance. As we age, we take for granted just being able to get up and use the restroom, hike up a flight of stairs, or carry in all our groceries from the market. I have seen how easily balance is lost in the patients I have seen in the hospital and how many injuries can occur from simply losing your balance. Here are a few exercises we should all start to incorporate daily.

3 Rounds, 30 seconds each exercise

1. Single leg balance - right
2. Single leg balance - left
3. Banded glute bridges
4. Lying leg lift - right
5. Lying leg lift - left
6. Plank hold

Try to incorporate these exercises 5x a week for improved balance and core strength!

Buzzing Around Carlsbad - The New Spot

Better Buzzed has officially made it to Carlsbad! This known coffee shop has caught the buzz of all Carlsbad residents. We love grabbing a coffee and walking the coast on the weekend mornings. They have a pretty big area where you can bring your laptop and connect to the wifi as well to get some work done. We love the classic and most favorite drink called "The Best Drink Ever". You can get it hot or iced, but iced is better with an extra shot of espresso. They also have some food items on the menu to try! There breakfast sammy is bomb!

Bowls on a Budget

Nursing school definitely calls for a budget. I have been making protein-packed, low-budget meals every night for dinner that turn into easy-to-pack leftovers for the next day! Here is one of my favorites at the moment!

Taco Bowl

-Ground turkey $5.99
-Tomatoes $2.99
-Spanish rice $2.99
-Sliced avocado $0.89
-Can of corn $0.69
-Can of black beans $0.99
-White onion $0.84
-Squeeze of lime $0.84
-Ranch
-Cholula

$16.22 / 4 meals = $4.05 per meal

Season meat with taco seasoning and sauté in a pan.
Slice tomatoes, avocado, and onion.
Heat Spanish rice in a microwave pouch.
Open corn and black beans

Top with a squeeze of lime and drizzle with ranch and Cholula. Enjoy with a warm tortilla on the side or some tortilla chips!

Usually makes 4-5 bowls

SUMMER 2023

 A Summer of Adjustments

We have been away at school and enjoying our summer time! Here is a little recap of how our summer has been. I took a trip to visit Lexie in New York and began one of the toughest terms through nursing school. In July we celebrated the 4th of July, but more importantly, we honored my grandmother, Filipinas Domingo. She would have celebrated her 87th birthday this July 4th. We miss her dearly, but her spirit lives on through my sweet, kind-loving aunt and my hard-working father. Lexie came home for a long visit over the school year summer break. We celebrated all three of our birthday’s – Addison’s, Lexie’s and mine. Mom and Dad took a trip back east to visit Addison in Florida and then went for a relaxing getaway with some of their best friends on the Lake in Tennessee. We’ve been to many baseball games and lots of time spent with friends. We hope you are all staying safe and enjoying the last few weeks of summer.

The Original Kebab

A new Mediterranean spot in downtown Oceanside. The owner has been in business for 20 years and has recently relocated in Oceanside, CA from Germany. They were extremely welcoming and gave us all kinds of things to sample. They are a mom-and-pop shop, which we love to support. Try their wraps, they are amazing! Located in the perfect spot to take your meal with you to the beach, or to enjoy and grab some Handle’s ice cream next door after.

Nursing Tip

Many people do not realize all the things they put into their bodies. And many people do not know the side effects of these things. Most often people do not think to tell the doctors and nurses whether they are taking over-the-counter medications (ibuprofen, Tylenol, etc.) or daily supplements (ginger, calcium, etc.).  However, there is often side effects when mixing with prescription medications. Next visit to the doctor, bring a list of everything you take on a daily or weekly basis and they can help educate you!

Workout of the Month

Chipper Style!

Starting with your longest effort keep chipping away repetitions. This one is sure to get you nice and sweaty. Keep a running clock and time how long it takes you to finish the full workout. In round 1 you will complete 10 repetitions per exercise, in round 2 you will complete 9 reps of each exercise, in round 3 you will complete 8 reps of each exercise, etc. Work your way down until round number 10 you complete 1 repetition of each exercise.

May 2023

Memorial Day

A day to remember those who weren't able to return home and take their uniform off. It is important to remember Memorial Day isn't just an extra day off, but a day to honor those who gave up their lives for us and their families who grief and miss their loved ones every day. We thank all of those who make the ultimate sacrifice fighting for our country and our freedom.

Celebrating Mom

Not only did we get to celebrate our hard-working mom for Mother's Day, but May is also mom's birthday month! Being a mother seems like the toughest job in the world. We all appreciate the sacrifice, love, and support that you show us each day. We might not always listen, but we do hear you. Mom spent her Mother's Day in New York City enjoying some time with Lexie. For her birthday, she was surrounded by family and friends for a quaint night at the house. Happy Mother's Day and Happy Birthday, Mom! We love you and admire your hard work!

Nursing Tip - Hand Hygiene so important as Covid 19 cases surge

Most of you either have gotten the cold and flu going around or you know someone who has got it. The number one way you can prevent infection from spreading is by hand washing! We all wash our hands, but it is important to wash your hands intently. There are specifics to the task we have all done since we started potty training.

Begin with getting your hands wet - rinse well.
Apply soap and wash hands from wrist to nail bed.
Wash your hands thoroughly singing "Happy Birthday" to yourself twice.
Rinse hands thoroughly and dry from elbow to fingertips.
Turn the faucet off with a paper towel in hand.

No one wants to be sick as we enter the summer time! Protect yourself and those around you.

Workout of the Month - THE MURPH

A workout to honor the LT Michael Murphy:

1 mile run
100 pull ups
200 push ups
300 air squats
1 mile run

LT Michael Murphy was a Navy SEAL who was killed during Operation Red Wings—his story is told in the film and book Lone Survivor.

Dr. Joshua Appel, the chief of emergency medicine for the Southern Arizona Veterans Administration Health Care System served as an Air Force pararescueman in 2005.He was the team leader that helped rescue Marcus Luttrell and recover Michael Murphy and Danny Dietz. He kept the body armor he wore when he recovered Murphy’s body. Two years later he decided to gather everyone at his CrossFit gym to do the “Murph” on Memorial Day to recognize Michael Murphy and those who have lost their lives in active service.\They continued to do the workout every year until 2010, when Dr. Appel contacted Michael’s father, Dan Murphy and asked if he could start a national fundraiser. He then built a website and asked members to join in doing the Murph Challenge for a small fee. All the proceeds from the donations would go to the Lt. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation. Each year, the challenge has grown. In 2011, 7,800 people signed up and donated. The next year — with the help of Mike Sauers who founded the apparel brand Forged — the number was over 10,000 people.
